ONOTO THE PEN UK
Plunger Filling fountain pen.
By Thomas de la Rue
Smooth medium semi flex nib.
Black chased hard rubber
overall length 136mm.
14 ct gold nib.
Thomas De la Rue produced the Onoto range and they enjoyed a lofty reputation for being the highest quality British made pen. They were of a better quality than all their contemporaries including Conway Stewart and Parker.
This is an example of Onoto's "The Pen" series which were introduced around 1915. It was made in London so it predates the move to Scotland in 1927. They are made from Black Hard Rubber and finished in a chased pattern.
This particular example is in fantastic condition and the chasing to the barrel and cap is crisp and unworn. The plunger filling system has been fully serviced and a new piston seal has been fitted along with new upper cork seals.
These pens were fitted with a unique ink shut off device so you must remember to unscrew the blind cap by half a turn before writing with it.
The large No.3/ST nib is a smooth Medium which writes really well with a slight flex. Overall this pen is in excellent condition with only very minor marks.
Condition: Grade A
